AMP Research, the group responsible for the developing and creating the PowerStep running board for your trucks and SUVs, has been around since the sixties. Through years, AMP Research has proven the quality and credibility of their name through the products that they have developed to add to our everyday living convenience and ease.
Its founder, Horst Leitner, first began working with Mercedes-Benz and other European vehicle companies. His passion for the motorcycles led him to develop and design his own. His principles for engineering are very evident in many of our modern motorcycles being sold in the market and purchased by consumers everywhere.
Before coming up with the idea on the PowerStep, AMP Research first exhibited their excellence in developing motorcycles that are more fast and efficient for racing or for mere transportation purposes. Around the 80's, AMP Research began to develop, design and manufacture their products in their site at Laguna Beach in California. They were also responsible for the design of the transmission and braking systems for snowmobiles by Polaris.
Aside from that, they were also responsible for the development of the device EZ-Clutch for the Harley motorcycle's lever that gave consumers a hard time pulling. The EZ-Clutch definitely improved the lever of the Harley motorcycle. In the 90's, AMP began to develop components for mountain bikes to improve their performance and efficiency. They were also able to develop mountain bikes carrying the brand of Mercedes-Benz. By 1998, AMP began to shift their focus to developing designs, manufacturing and the engineering of automotive products, and before the new millenium, they were able to develop a fuel door component for the Mitsubishi Eclipse.
In the year 2000, they transferred to their new location in Irvine, California and continued their research and development of components for cars, bikes and motorcycles. Their bed extender became one of the best-selling car components, and they developed a fuel filter door for Ford's newest Mustang models.
As if to further demonstrate their acumen in research and development, AMP Research received recognition from the Dodge vehicle company, awarding AMP with the ?Dodge Truck Brand Application Excellence Award? for the development of the PowerStep for Dodge's Ram model. By 2003, Westin Automotive became the after-sales distributor of AMP's Alloy Fuel Door and Bed X-Tender, and as years went by, other distributors like Bestop and ElectricStep (www.electricstep.com) also became after-sales distributors for AMP's products and additional components for vehicles.
By 2004, AMP is able to design more PowerStep running boards fit for all kinds of trucks and SUVs for different vehicle makes. It is truly a big step for them and it earned them more credibility from those vehicle companies that they support when it comes to researching and developing car components for different types of vehicles.
